AI is changing the way we think and learn. AI tools can seriously enhance learning opportunities and can also strip away the fundamentally essential human skills of critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving. In order to ensure we are providing opportunities for students to use generative AI tools in ethical and purposeful ways, I have gathered together some recommended reading (as at January 2026): â€‹

Common Sense Media - AI Literacy Lessons for Grades 6-12​

A collection of quick lessons which provide an introduction to AI and help address its social and ethical impacts. Students will: 

  • Understand what AI is and how it works

  • Consider some of its potential benefits and risks

  • Think critically about how we can be responsible and ethical users of AI

MIT Media Lab - Ethics of AI Curriculum for Middle School Students

A set of activities, teacher guides, assessments, materials, and more to assist educators in teaching about the ethics of artificial intelligence. These activities were developed at the MIT Media Lab to meet a growing need for children to understand artificial intelligence, its impact on society, and how they might shape the future of AI.
